Youth Ministry Programming

We extend our thanks and blessings to Nina Swanson, who directed and inspired the children for the Christmas program.  In addition to her musical gifts, she also has an incredible amount of patience, love, and humor.  The kids respond so well to her.  We are truly blessed to have her! Also, many thanks, to the children in the Christmas program who worked very hard to get the music and the words and meaning just right.  And thanks to the parents who patiently waited and listened for several weeks as they practiced.

Now that Advent is over, the elementary school students will go back to their earlier curriculum, the "Celebrating My God Self" series, learning Unity principles as they apply to their lives.  They also learn basic values, like caring, cooperation, diversity, and more as they explore Bible and contemporary stories.  We rotate between doing crafts, games, kitchen lessons, and other activities to help reinforce the concepts.    

The Uniteens (middle school students) are making progress on their computer game based on Unity principles.  We have five countries representing the five principles, and the hero has to grasp the principle before he/she can move to the next levels.  The hero has to use his/her powers of faith, imagination, love, strength, etc. to be able to make progress, so we're learning about those 12 powers as we're going.  The actual programming is a slow process - getting our hero to run and jump in the right places, without falling, was a big accomplishment! 

The Youth of Unity (Y.O.U.) group for high school students is still getting its feet wet as we talk about what Unity is and why we should care.  The teens are contributing the music, prayers, and readings of their choice as we create our weekly "lessons".  We're also trying to stay connected with the regional YOU group with regular inspirational messages and its newsletter. We hope to attend the next YOU rally.

Youth Ministry Orientation and Training Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. - noon.
