Youth Ed As an integral part of the Unity family, the Youth Education ministry provides a creative environment for learning that is safe, loving, fun, and inspiring. It empowers young people to know their divinity and to love themselves and others. CURRICULUM In most of our classes, we use a story-based curriculum from the Association of Unity Churches. It draws from Bible stories and other books to help the children understand the principles of Truth. We believe that the Bible is the story of our own personal journey, and when we gain a deeper understanding of the stories, we are better able to use the teachings contained within them to enrich our lives. Each of the age groups focuses on different elements of the stories, depending on their level of understanding. UniTykes (3 years - Kindergarten): The main focus with this young group is to reinforce the idea that God is within us, around us, everywhere present, and loves us unconditionally. The curriculum uses Bible stories and other books to help the children learn in a fun way about themes, such as uniqueness, families, loving, compassion, cooperation, caring, and oneness. We have crafts, games, puppets, music, sharing, and “wiggle time”. UniKids (1 – 5 Grades): The focus with this age group is to learn the five Unity Principles and the 12 Gifts of God and how they apply in our lives. We use Bible and contemporary stories, crafts, games, kitchen lessons and more to make it fun, yet educational and spiritual. SAFETY Unity follows basic risk-management policies by having two adults in the classroom at all times, and no child is left alone. All classroom doors have windows, and parents are always welcome to observe and assist. SUNDAY MORNING ROUTINE Children attend the start of the Sunday service with their parents and are then “sung off” to Youth Education after the opening songs and reading of the Daily Word. The Sunday school teachers and helpers walk with them to their respective classrooms. All children in the elementary grades and younger should be picked up from their respective rooms within 15 minutes of the adult service. We will not release young children to their siblings or on their own. UNITY’S FIVE BASIC PRINCIPLES (WRITTEN FOR CHILDREN): 1. Wherever I am God is, and God is only good. 2. God’s light shines in me and in everything. 3. My thoughts and words affect how I see my world. 4. Prayer keeps me connected to God. 5. I use the Truth I am learning in everything I think, say, and do. I make a difference!
